Organic agriculture has its own values, principles and regulations. The International Federation of Organic Agricultural Movements IFOAM has agreed on the four principles of Health, Ecology, Fairness and Care as underlying principles for organic agriculture
SOAR is an open network between partners funding or contributing to research education within organic farming and food systems.
SOAR's vision
SOAR aims to be a valuable partner in strong national and international networks to offer courses relevant to organic food and farming research at highest international level, across institutions and disciplines.
SOAR is a network for PhD students and their supervisors. The objective of SOAR is to strengthen research education within organic agriculture and food systems.
SOAR is founded on collaboration between:
- The Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, Aarhus Univsersity
- The Faculty of Life Sciences, University of Copenhagen
- International Centre for Research in Organic Food and Farming Systems
SOAR is open to all PhD students and supervisors interested in organic agriculture and food systems research.
SOAR contributes to form strong international networks for research education in organic agriculture and food systems.

NOVA Ph.D.course: Sustainability assessment in farming and food systems – organic, conventional and beyond
In September 2012, a SOAR- NOVA summer course with focus on sustainability assessments will be held. We will introduce theories and practices of assessing and improving the sustainability of today’s changing agricultural and food systems, and the course participants will discuss this as well as conceptual frameworks, principles and regulations influencing current agricultural and food system policies and their practical application.
