Rules

that apply to PhD students enrolled in SOAR and SOAR key supervisors:

PhD students:

The general rules for PhD studies at the Graduate School of Veterinary and Agricultural Sciences of Denmark apply to the research school, click here for easy reference. 

In addition, the following modifications apply specifically to promote the aims of this school:  

1. All students should preferably have two supervisors, one from a university and one from another institution within DARCOF (FØJO).
2. At least one of the supervisors must be a key supervisor in SOAR
3. All students should participate in at least two one-week summer schools arranged by SOAR during the 3 years study period. It is possible to substitute a SOAR summer school with a similar, relevant, self financed arrangement (e.g. a summer school of another research school), which has been approved in advance by SOAR.
4. All students should participate in biannual seminars.
5. Summer schools merit 4 or 6 ECTS as a PhD course, depending on size. Biannual seminars do not carry merits.
6. A status report should be submitted annually (1 October) to SOAR and DARCOF using this template
7. Publiccations should be uploaded to Organic Eprints under SOAR
8. Students should present their research at one or more biannual seminars and at least at one international conference.
9. Deviations from above need approval by SOAR
   

Key supervisors:

The research school attaches supervisors on basis of the scientific expertise. The Scientific Advisory Board decides on acceptance of a person as key supervisor in SOAR. The Key Supervisors in SOAR are listed in two different lists, Current and Potential. At least one of the Key Supervisors for a PhD student in SOAR is expected to have experience with research in organic farming and food production and thus be listed under  Current Key Supervisors or Potential Key Supervisors.

Key Supervisors in SOAR are expected to:

1. meet the usual requirements to the supervisor role (Senior Scientist or Associate Professor level).
2. actively contribute to achieving the aims of the research school, thus allocating sufficient time participate in relevant seminars, and help to plan and conduct meetings and courses when needed.
3. enter the co-operation and network that constitutes the research school
4. be interested in working interdisciplinarily within the framework of the research school
5. participate in SOAR's supervision course when available.
