Preparations
Most scientists claim their research to be contributing to a sustainable development of the society, but it is not always easy to define in which way the research contributes. This is because sustainability is hard to define and addresses a complex set of issue. No single, ‘true’ definition of sustainability exists – what is implied depends on the proposer and on the assumptions, more or less, tacitly made.
In which ways does your own research project contribute to development of sustainable agriculture/food production system?
You should end up with five keywords describing what YOU find is important for your research to contribute to sustainability. You should be able to explain to other group members what each key word covers.
At the scene
You will get cards to write your five keywords.
You match up with someone you think have ‘similar’ keywords. In pairs you discuss what your keywords cover, and you negotiate five keywords that you can agree on being most important from your common ten words. (15 minutes)
As pairs you match up with another pair with similar keywords. The four of you negotiate five keywords you can agree on being the most important from you common ten words. (15 minutes)
The group prepares a 5 minutes’ presentation on what the five keywords cover and why they are important. (15 minutes)
Presentations
Each group presents the outcomes of their discussions.
Other groups get the opportunity to ask questions.
